After days of hiking and trekking through the Costa Rican mountains we determined it was time to relax on the coast. The Pacific Coast is loaded with small surfer towns and scores of open beaches. Our first stop was the Nicoya Peninsula and the beach town of Montezuma. Once in Montezuma it was time to basically kick back on the beach with a six-pack.
The pace was different in Montezuma. We were not getting up at the crack of dawn to meet a guide. We were not prioritizing items to do from our guidebooks. We were not adhering to any schedule. When we got to this town it was quickly agreed that the prime pursuit was relaxation. Hotel accomodations were found on the beach at Hotel Lys. For days I slept and rose to the sounds of the surf breaking not far from the front porch.
These were some of the best days spent in Costa Rica. It was essentially a non-stop party at night and a parade of beach bums during the day. We enjoyed this place enough that we wound up staying a couple extra days. The local color was great.
